Wheatbelt health news

Wheatbelt Health Professionals Network - Narrogin event

The Wheatbelt Health Professionals Network hosted a Q&A discussion in Narrogin with Associate Professor Mat Coleman and local health professionals on issues around addiction, including smoking, cannabis and alcohol addiction.

2023 WA Rural Health Conference

The Wheatbelt Health Professionals Network attended the 2023 WA Rural Health Conference in Perth in March. It was great to connect with health professionals who were visiting from all corners of the Wheatbelt. We look forward to seeing you at the conference again next year.

Wheatbelt Medical Student Immersion Program

Around 200 medical students from Notre Dame and Curtin visited communities throughout the Wheatbelt in March as part of the 2023 Wheatbelt Medical Student Immersion Program (WMSIP). Towns involved in the program include Bruce Rock, Corrigin, Cunderdin, Dalwallinu, Kellerberrin/Tammin, Kondinin, Merredin, Moora, Narrogin, Southern Cross, Westonia and Wongan Hills.

Students learnt about living and working in the region, while staying with local families and visiting local health services and schools. The program featured a range of activities such as farm visits, touring a salt mine, emergency simulations and experiencing some ochre pit face painting.

The aim of WMSIP is to encourage the students to consider a career in rural medicine and to have a better understanding of the context of their rural patients in the future.

Thanks to all of the towns who have supported the students through Wheatbelt Medical Student Immersion Program this year.
