Chocolate lovers should be on high alert. Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire, the leading producers of cocoa beans, are facing a major shortage of the crop. The natural beans are the raw material of most chocolate products. Michael E. Odijie unpacks the factors that have led to this shortage and explains why he thinks chocolate makers should find a substitute for the beans.

It’s been almost a year since Nigeria removed fuel subsidies, which had been in place since the 1970s. The move, President Bola Tinubu’s first official act after taking office, led to an immediate increase in fuel prices and contributed to rising inflation. Stephen Onyeiwu agrees the subsidies had to go eventually, but argues that their sudden and total removal was not the best strategy.
