Hello |

What's On in the Arts in Central Otago - September.
Last weekend we celebrated the opening of Matau - a new creative collective in Historic Clyde. Matau has been initiated by Maxine Williams who will be joined by other artisans in the coming months. They will source contemporary art, furniture, and giftware from throughout New Zealand to exhibit and sell in the perfectly suited old bridge club space on Sunderland Street. Spring opening hours are 11am - 4pm daily or by appointment by phoning 022 300 1422. News that the Alexandra Blossom Festival is still on (provided we move to Level 1) has been received with much enthusiasm this week. The Central Otago Art Society will also proceed with their annual Blossom Festival Exhibition which will be on show to the
public from Thursday September 24th in the Alexandra Memorial Centre. This year’s judge and guest exhibitor is ceramicist Victoria Dawes. Victoria has moved to Pisa Moorings after studying art in the USA. She specialises in earthenware pottery, making functional items, small animal sculptures and objects relating to her home. The Alexandra Musical Society cast and crew continue to work diligently towards opening 'A Musical
Degustation' as part of the Alexandra Blossom Festival. The committee have advised that they will await governmental advice on Monday 21st September and if we go down to Level 1 ticketing will open that afternoon. The opening has been delayed ensuring their dedicated audience have time to purchase tickets and make plans. The opening will be Wednesday 30th September at 7.30pm, followed by Thursday and Friday October 1st and 2nd, 7.30pm shows. The matinee will be held on Saturday the 3rd at 2pm. The duration of the much-admired Denis Kent Retrospective Exhibition, currently on show at Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery, has been
extended and now closes on the 19th of October. Denis will be presenting a landscape painting demonstration at Central Stories on the 26th and 27th of September - the work he will be creating will be for sale upon its completion. Everyone is welcome to come along and take a look, entry is free. Also happening at Central Stories on the 26th is the launch of 'Unmooring' a collection of poetry by Oturehua resident Bridget Auchmuty. A celebration of art, food, wine, and heritage is on at the beginning of October at Across the Bridge in Bannockburn. Organisers have put together a programme of exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops, poetry and more - all to be enjoyed in the stunning wine country environs. Registrations for photography and drawing workshops are open now and can be completed online by visiting www.artscentral.co.nz. This year top New Zealand writer Fiona Farrell joins Wanaka poet Annabel Wilson for a series of readings and discussion facilitated by Henderson House Artist in Residence and acclaimed author Kate de Goldi. Not to be missed is the Cairnmuir Station Woolshed Exhibition of works by Bannockburn artists Alan Waters, Maurice Middleditch, Gail de Jong, Odelle Morshuis, Tim Hawkins, Robert Franklin, Jenni Barker, Suellen Bauer, Celia Walmsley, Megan Huffadine, Alan Coull and Jennifer Hay with guest Artists Angela Maritz, Cora Baillie, and David Atkinson.
