Matariki is the Māori name for the well-known star cluster of Pleaides.
When this star cluster rises in the Māori month of Pipiri (June-July) this is a sign to many Māori (but not all) of the new year. In Hauraki, we refer to Matariki as "Te Paki o Matariki" or "the widespread calm of Pleaides." Matariki is a time for being with the ones we love and being grateful for what we have.

Our libraries will close for the Matariki public holiday on Friday 10 July. We'll be back to our usual hours on Saturday.

Our colouring competition begins on Monday 29 June!

Pop into any of our District Libraries and pick up a colouring sheet. We have some great prizes up for grabs in each age category! 

Entries close at the end of the school holidays, on Friday 17 July. We'll announce the winners early in Term 3.

• Drop in and check out what's on the craft tables. We'll have plenty of Matariki-themed crafts to make with your friends and family!

1. Fill in our online registration form to get your temporary library membership number. You can use this as your user ID number to access our online resources (ePlatform by Wheelers and Comics Plus) for up to two weeks.

2. Visit your local District Library branch within two weeks to activate your library card.

3. You're now ready to go!

If you're signing up someone who's under 18 years old, please use the 'junior' membership option on the form.
