Mayor Christine Kay

From the Mayor

Council decided at its meeting this week to pause construction of Norman Griffiths Oval and engage independent experts to provide an updated cost analysis and consult the community before Council commits to further expense.

We will listen to your views and independent advice before deciding on a path forward to deliver the best possible outcome for sporting clubs and the wider community.

Great recognition for our alternative plan for housing growth in Ku-ring-gai with a high commendation from the Planning Institute of Australia this week. We were the only council nationwide to be recognised for our planning skills.

Our after hours space at Gordon Library is becoming very popular! If you’re a student or someone who needs a place to do some work after normal library hours, then book in at Library After Hours Ku-ring-gai

Another initiative that’s proving very popular is the Earn & Return baskets at selected locations in Ku-ring-gai. This is a trial whereby residents can leave recyclable bottles and cans for others to collect for cash. Find out more.

This week we’ve been busy celebrating the hundreds of volunteers serving our community. As part of National Volunteer Week we hosted movie days for local volunteers and lit up the Council Chambers in orange to thank our SES volunteers on Wear Orange Wednesday.

If you are interested in volunteering, check out our Volunteer Hub which lists many organisations you can get involved with locally.

Thank you to everyone who volunteers in our community and makes Ku-ring-gai such a great place to live.

Mayor Christine Kay
