Community influences design of new bridges

Community feedback has resulted in changes being made to the plans for three new pedestrian and cycle bridges across the Ōtākaro Avon River. Work on constructing the bridges is due to start in early 2021.

New fund available for red zone community projects 

The Christchurch City Council has opened a $282,000 fund to activate community projects and events in the city’s former residential red zones, including the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor, Southshore, South New Brighton, Brooklands and the Port Hills .

Students helping to turn the former red zones green 

School students from throughout Christchurch are joining forces to help green the red-zone, and have received a $20,000 grant to plant 10,000 native trees in the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor next year.
