What's On in the Arts in Central Otago - February

The Ophir Peace Memorial Hall is getting put to great use with two exciting performances
happening in the coming months. Italian musician Adriano Sangineto on the 13th of February and We Wayward Divas on the 1st of March. Gilly Darby and Vikki Clayton (We Wayward Divas) are famed for their beautiful voices, they write
much of their own material and between them play several instruments. Not to be taken lightly, these girls have impressive musical careers. Between them, and sometimes together, they have worked with Van Morrison, Richard Thompson, John Martyn, Fairport Convention, Joan Armatrading, Ralph McTell and many more legendary musicians. They have toured the world, performed at major festivals and events and have thrilled audiences everywhere. Both were born in the UK but now happily live in New Zealand. Adriano Sangineto is an Italian musician, composer and arranger. He completed his musical studies at the Milan Conservatory where he graduated
in clarinet and experimental composition. In 2002 he began to play the Celtic harp and explored disparate musical fields: from ancient to modern music, classical music, new age, pop, and Italian and European popular music, creating original arrangements. Thanks to the in-depth study of classical composition and its conjugation with popular musical culture, he composes and presents pieces for numerous different puposes including soundtracks, theatre, advertising and more. He has 13 recordings to his credit (as a soloist and in a group) and has been involved in numerous collaborations with artists on the Italian and European scene. Make sure you get your tickets to both these concerts soon as they are likely to be very popular! THE CENTRAL OTAGO ARTS TRAIL The Central Otago Arts Trail has gathered momentum over the years with thousands of locals and visitors to the region using our Central Otago Arts Trail booklet to tour across the district and visit the artists' studios, galleries and shops listed with us. Our last printed edition of the Central Otago Arts Trail booklet is now out of date with some places
changing location, some moving from the district and new people getting added to this evolving project. Toward the end of last year we decided to remove the booklet from circulation and replace it with a rack card which will advertise this fabulous facility and refer people to our Arts Trail website for more information. We are working on the rack card now and hope to have it completed in the coming months. In the meantime we have been profiling artists, galleries, studios and shops listed in our Central Otago Arts Trail project, on the Central Otago Arts Facebook and the Arts Central Otago Instagram Page. This has been a lot of fun and has been generating interest from people across New Zealand and further afield. Do take the time to 'like' our social pages to keep up to date - and if you are involved in the creative industry in Central Otago and would like to be included on the Arts Trail, please feel free to get in touch by emailing [email protected]. AN ARTS GATHERING We are planning to host a gathering and workshop for all arts clubs, groups and organisations (including theatre, music, dance, visual and literary arts etc) in Central Otago in 2024. If you are involved in the governance of such a group and would like to be included on our list of invitees, we would love to hear from you. Please feel free to email [email protected] or call Rebekah 022 017 0478. THE CENTRAL OTAGO WELLBEING PROJECT - SHAPING TOMORROW TOGETHER Community Development Central Otago are working on "The Central Otago Wellbeing Project - Shaping Tomorrow Together". This project is about identifying what is important to you about living, working or holidaying in Central Otago, what will be important to you and contribute to your wellbeing in the future and how we can all work together to make sure we take care of the things that matter the most to you. The project will help develop a 50-year vision which will be used to shape Central Otago's future. The survey will include questions like, 'What do you love about Central Otago' and 'What do you want to see for its future'. Feel free to share this message with your
friends, whanau, neighbours and as many people as possible, so they hear from the widest range of voices, across Central Otago. Click HERE for more information and to register. Enjoy everything on in the arts in Central Otago this month!
