Adolescent Anxiety and Depression Related to Consultation Case StudyPresenting Challenge:A pediatrician consulted with the WI CPCP regarding a 17-year-old girl presenting with increased symptoms of anxiety and depression. At a well-check visit, the patient scored unusually high on a number of PROMIS subscales. When asked about her symptoms, the patient shared that she planned to go to college, but felt disillusioned by extensive media, family, and peer concerns that AI will eliminate many jobs for young people within the next decade. The patient reported feeling hopeless and without purpose at a time in her life when she perceived she ‘should’ feel excitement and optimism. As a result, the patient retreated from family and others to avoid conversations about her future. The patient described how she felt isolated, ineffective, anxious, and depressed. The consultation question to the WI CPCP was, “What are some recommended strategies to help teens and young adults with anxiety and depression related to AI?” For the consultant's response, click here.
