Linda and Coco, Senior Prom 2022 Not looking to adopt? You are welcome to come down for a tour of our beautifully renovated sanctuary. In addition to tours, visitors may wish to sponsor a cat and help us continue to provide housing and medical care for awaiting adoption with us. Sponsors will receive a hand-painted ornament with your sponsoree's name (or your own cat's name if you prefer).
Volunteer Stephanie Stellacio We will be serving popcorn, cotton candy and water -- come and chat with us and have a snack. Hope to see you there! Our Seniors for Seniors program has been very successful placing nearly 40 cats into loving homes with senior adopters gaining the benefits of companionship with reduced financial obligations or risk. If you would like to help us help more senior cats, please consider donating today! Cosmo's StoryA few weeks ago, we received an email from Animal Care Centers (ACC) that a 6-week-old kitten was found with a traumatic injury to his left rear limb. The injury was so catastrophic that he needed to undergo emergency surgery to amputate what was left of the limb. We don't know when or what happened, but infection was already setting in so there was no time to waste. A plea was sent by ACC to all New Hope Partners (rescue groups approved by ACC to handle cases like Cosmo's) and we responded. Arrangements were made at Animal Surgical Center, an emergency hospital in Oceanside, to transfer Cosmo directly from ACC. While we were arranging his care, ACC sent out an email to find someone to transport Cosmo to the Animal Surgical Center. Long-time Ladew supporter and animal lover, David Glicksman, volunteered and dropped everything he was doing to drive to Brooklyn to pick up Cosmo and bring him to the hospital to get him the help he needed. PHLF Licensed Veterinary Technician, Tim Frazer and Cosmo Cosmo had his surgery the same day and did so well he was able to come to us the very next day. David once again came to Cosmo's aid and transported him to us in Oyster Bay for recovery. Little Cosmo was up and walking on 3 legs the very next day following his surgery. We would like to thank all of our supporters who donated and shared his story to help this little guy and of course to David and Animal Surgical Center for being there for him. We are delighted to tell you that Cosmo has been adopted, his name is now Kermit and he is loved beyond measure. It takes a village and we are so grateful for the amazing one we have! Vote for our Senior Prom King and Queen!Meet our Prom Queen Nominees! Jagger was found as a stray and her history is a mystery. We believe she is around 15 years old and she loves people. When asked why she should be Prom Queen, she replied "because I survived life on the streets in New York City and since I'm the oldest candidate, I feel I'm the most qualified." Our next nominee, Noelle, was given up by her owners because they moved to a smaller apartment. When asked why she should be Queen, Noelle stated "I know what it's like to find housing in New York these days. I will fight for other homeless cats, even though I don't really like cats that much." Our third nominee is Señorita. Señorita's elderly owner could no longer care for her. She went to live with his granddaughter, but the granddaughter found she didn't have time for Señorita. When asked why she should be Queen, Señorita stated "I'm the only bilingual candidate, Yo hablo Español y Ingles." Our nominees for Prom King this year are Sammy, Prince and Wilbur. Sammy's owner's health declined and he could no longer care for Sammy. When asked why he should be King, Sammy said "Being a declawed cat myself, I will continue to educate people on the perils of declawing and continue to fight for legislation to ban it, like it is banned in my great state of New York." Prince's owner was also elderly and couldn't take care of him anymore. Family members took Prince in, but some of them were allergic and they had to give this sweetheart of a guy up. When asked why he should be King, Prince said "Isn't it obvious? I'm already next in line." Wilbur's owner also couldn't take care of him anymore so Wilbur, his brother Waldo, and mom, Katy, were brought back to Ladew. When asked why he should be King, Wilbur said "because it has a nice ring to it."
