Naval Point - Te Nukutai o Tapoa Development UpdateNew change pavilion for Lyttelton Recreation GroundThe revamp of Lyttelton’s Naval Point – Te Nukutai o Tapoa moves into its next phase next week as work begins on new changing facilities at the Recreation Grounds. The new $1.2 million building will sit alongside the redeveloped sports fields, and take around eight months to complete. Contracting firm Watts and Hughes has been engaged to do the works, which start on Monday 23 September. Pedestrian and traffic access around the area may change from time to time depending on site activity. Please follow any site signage. We anticipate there will also be some noise, vibrations and dust whilst the construction is taking place, but our contractors will be making every effort to minimise the impact. Recreation Grounds revamp continuesThe change pavilion project follows the addition of a "multi-sport zone" and redevelopment of the two existing grass sports fields at the Lyttelton Recreation Grounds, over the last year. The final step before completing the multi-sport zone is adding a design to the hard courts. An artist from Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke Rāpaki is developing the design, which will tie in with the nearby artwork along the water’s edge. The artwork will be added to the netball and basketball/futsal courts after the change pavilion has been built to avoid the risk of damage during construction. The eastern sports field has been a hit this past season, but more time is needed to establish the turf on the western field. Both fields – and the change pavilion – are expected to open ahead of the 2025 winter sports season. New addition to Naval Point - boat wash stationA new wash station for boats and other vessels has been installed near the water. Two vessels at a time can use the washdown bay, but plans are in place to increase the capacity to four in future. A few reminders to help keep the wash station working well for everyone:
The water runoff is collected and treated before entering the stormwater system, please tidy up after yourself and avoid leaving any rubbish or debris behind. You received this email because you are subscribed to receive updates from Christchurch City Council. |
