SO Few Consider Adoption
Today, only 1% - 2% of women facing unplanned pregnancy choose adoption. The other 98% choose between abortion and (single) parenting. They don't realize that they can choose life but not parenting.
Encouraging Women to Choose Adoption
We believe that increasing the number of women choosing adoption has two parts:
-- Education about Open Adoption
Very few people understand how adoption works today. Imagine if the school systems' Health classes -- which include contraception & condoms, sex & gender, HIV & STDs -- also included pregnancy options. Students could learn how adoption works today, that the mom can choose the adoptive parents and then stay involved as her child grows up. What a difference it could make, to educate people before the crisis hits!
-- Making it Easier to Choose Adoption
When it comes to choosing adoption, each state sets their own rules. Many have extra unnecessary hurdles, making this path even more difficult than it is already.
We're working with two States - Idaho and Tenn. - to develop a legislative template of new bills that will smooth the path for the birthmothers.

Open adoption is a form of adoption in which the biological and adoptive families have each other's contact information and varying degrees of contact with each other, by phone, in person and/or through social media.

Young women are 50% more likely to make an adoption plan when the trusted adult in their life suggests it to them. Otherwise, most girls don't give it a minute's thought, and choose between abortion or single parenting. That's why we need to get this on the radar of more people.
