Deadline for QMHW Achievement Awards Extended Due to popular demand, the deadline to submit a nomination for the Queensland Mental Health Week Achievement Awards has been extended by one week until Monday 9th September 2019. Walk for Awareness One month to go until Walk for Awareness on October 6 There’s one month to go until the 2019 Walk for Awareness will take place on Sunday, 6 October. Walk for Awareness, an initiative of the Mental Awareness Foundation (MAF), is an 8km walk around Brisbane’s scenic river which will transform the city into a front line of community support for mental health. Walk for Awareness will open Queensland Mental Health Week and participants can expect an line-up of inspiring and informative activities and opening ceremony of remembrance and mindfulness.

One Tree Matters – Live Life (Murrigal): An event that aims to improve mental health by taking time to connect with each other and care for the environment Goompi Projects - Saltwater Healing (Dunwich): This event aims to promote mental health and wellbeing, create understanding of mental illness, and celebrate the lives of people living with mental illness. Being Understood and Accepted (Kilkivan): An event for the local community that hopes to foster community inclusion and acceptance. There will be information and discussion around mental health, as well as community games including 'chess in the park'. Good Vibrations 2019 (Emerald): A fun and interactive event, aiming to give participants skills and education to cultivate a positive lifestyle and better understanding of mental health. The event will have six workshops, six speakers, and a local cultural dance group. Tackling Tough Times Together (Thallon): This event will celebrate the resilience and diversity of the Thallon community. It aims to bring people together through music and dance, and share information on support services. The event will feature a traditional smoking ceremony run by a member of Thallon's Indigenous community; food, music and dance prepared by members of Thallon's Fijian Community. Don't Retire Your Hopes (Logan): An event with will focus on mental health for middle aged and older people and the particular struggles we have as we age. The event will start with a wellbeing workshop, which will be followed by a luncheon where participants can connect, network, and find support.
