What's on in Central Otago - October

Arts Golds Awards 2017 on show at Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery until November 19th. A celebration of art, food, wine and heritage happens this week at Across the Bridge in Bannockburn. Organisers have put together a programme of exhibitions, art demonstrations, poetry, film and more - all to be enjoyed in the
stunning wine country environs. Not to be missed is The Great Debate at the Bannockburn Hall on Thursday the 5th of October. Go along and listen to Mayor Tim Cadogan, winemaker Dean Shaw, writer and performance poet Liz Breslin, Grape Vision’s James Dicey, and local personalities Jimmy Dundass and Phil Parker debate a Brian Turner line, 'New Zealand has gone to the dogs'. additional Across the Bridge events such as Poets in the Pub, the Cairnmuir Station Woolshed Exhibition, and Reel life in Rural New Zealand can be found below. Something pretty special is happening at Central Cinema in Alexandra this weekend. The Manhattan Short Film Festival will be on show as part of an International screening happening from the 28th September - 8th October. This year, Central Otago is the only place in New Zealand where you can view the 10 short films, selected from some 1,600 entries from across 75 countries. The Final 10 represent a wide variety of genres including comedy, drama, animation, Sci-Fi, horror,
and martial arts. These hail from the USA, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, New Zealand, Switzerland, Syria, Georgia, and Latvia. Attracting a diverse slice of our community, the Festival engages with local organisations, and individuals, to stage Central Otago's largest arts and sustainability festival. This
year the Festival theme, ‘Cherishing Our Environment’ is reflected in interactive workshops, walks, talks, demonstrations, working artists, exhibits, films and live performance.
