Strengthening Apprenticeships in ScotlandA new report published by the OECD, strengthening Skills In Scotland, makes recommendations on how to strengthen the apprenticeship system in the face of changing labour market needs. The report has been developed in collaboration with SAAB and Skills Development Scotland (SDS). Paul Campbell and the Employer Engagement Group led the work and members from across SAAB were consulted to provide an employer voice and perspective. SAAB StrategySAAB Group Board Chair, Peter Farrer, has been working with the other Chairs of the groups to create a new strategy for SAAB which is ambitious, reflects SAAB's aims to grow apprenticeship numbers while aligning with the National Strategy for Economic Transformation (NSET) to support employers, learners and the Scottish economy. Next steps involve taking the draft strategy out to all other SAAB members to gather contributions and feedback. The SAAB team with work with all groups in the new year to flesh out workplans, aligned to the new SAAB strategy. AAG Chair's ReportThe third annual report from the Chair of the Apprenticeship Approvals Group has been published. The report, from Ruth Jennings of SAAB Standards and Frameworks and Sainsbury's, demonstrates how employers remain at the heart of apprenticeships, reflecting the skills needed by industry, as businesses and the economy adapt to a post-pandemic, changing world of work. New Digital Technology apprenticeship - now liveThe Technical Apprenticeship in Digital Technology (SCQF Level 8), is now live with full framework details available via apprenticeships.scot The new apprenticeship replaces a number of existing IT apprenticeships, to offer one with three pathways into Software Development, Cyber Security or Data Analytics - this will help provide a flexible model to meet employers’ specific needs. Graduate Apprenticeships - progress reportSkills Development Scotland and the Scottish Funding Council co-published the Graduate Apprenticeships progress report for 2021-22. The report highlights increasing employer uptake of Graduate Apprenticeships – with the number of employers offering Graduate Apprenticeships rising to 530, supporting 1,166 learners nationwide and delivering critical skills for the economy.
