The End of Life Law for Clinicians (ELLC) workshop is a free training program for health professionals, focusing on the legal aspects of end-of-life decision-making.

We strongly encourage GPs, medical practitioners, nurses, allied health professionals, Aboriginal health professionals, social workers, psychologists, counsellors and students to join us.

A clinical case study will be used to explore key legal and ethical topics, including:

✅ Capacity and consent to medical treatment
✅ Withholding and withdrawing life-sustaining treatment
✅ Substitute decision-making
✅ Futile or non-beneficial treatment
✅ Providing pain and symptom relief
✅ Voluntary assisted dying

2025 Honours/Masters Scholarships for Aboriginal Students

Cancer Council WA is calling for Aboriginal Honours and Masters students to apply for a unique opportunity to build skills and gain hands-on experience in cancer research.

Scholarships provide up to $60,000 over two years to work on a cancer research project, co-funded by the Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund and Cancer Council WA.

Applications close 30 September 2025 – and no applications have been received yet!

Toxicological Emergencies

Wound Care Workshop

We were delighted to welcome 24 health professionals from Karratha, Hedland, Tom Price, and Onslow to our 2025 Wound Care Workshop.

The workshop was expertly delivered by Donna Larsen, Wound Management Nurse Practitioner (Royal Perth Hospital), and Beth Sperring, Wound Educator, who shared valuable insights into best practice wound care.

 
 

Cervical Screening Update – Education Sessions

Health professionals from Paraburdoo, Tom Price, and Newman recently took part in our Cervical Screening Update education sessions, designed to strengthen knowledge and confidence in applying the latest national guidelines.

Delivered by Noni Osland, Health Professional Education Officer with the WA Cervical Cancer Prevention Program, the sessions equipped participants with the tools to:
✔️ Effectively discuss cervical screening with patients
✔️ Implement updated guidelines in practice
✔️ Support improved patient care and outcomes across the Pilbara region

A big thank you to all who attended and contributed to these important conversations in women’s health.

Over 25 health professionals and their families gathered at Mia Mia House in the Desert for a relaxed evening of connection, conversation and community.
