Welcome

Welcome to December's edition of the ezine.  The final ezine of a challenging 2021 includes various different pieces of information to help keep our membership up to date with what's going on across our aquatic sports.

Features cover some development opportunities which were delivered in the region during November such as Swimming and Para-Swimming camps, plus an Inclusive Training workshop for Young Leaders.  A new digital marketing resource has been made available for sports clubs to help promote themselves and an update on the Diving Recorders pathway has been provided.  Please take note of the statement which Swim England have released on the process of weighing athletes, the Northumbria and Durham 2022 County Championship meet information and various potential funding opportunities for clubs to consider.  Some vacancies are featured including several club coaching positions and committee positions available for the Northumberland and Durham Performance programme.  There are 3 free online workshops running in January and February 2022.

Congratulations go to those athletes from the North East who competed at the Swim England Winter Swimming Championships at the start of December.  It was great to see so many athletes achieving personal best times, making finals and claiming podium positions.  Many congratulations to everyone who took part and thank you to all the coaches, Team Managers and event volunteers from the North East who supported the running of the competition.  Congratulations also go to Derwentside's Lyndon Longhorne who has been selected onto the British Para-Swimming Podium Potential programme for 2022 and University of Leed's Zara Mullooly who has been selected onto the Podium squad.

Thanks to all those involved in the sport for what they have done to support our members in so many different ways during what has been a difficult year.  We hope readers have a safe, restful and enjoyable Christmas and that 2022 sees our sport continue to recover, develop and prosper.  Please take note of the Regional Office closure over the festive period and keep an eye on the website and social media platforms to ensure that you keep up to date with the latest information into the new year.
