News from the College of Business, Government & LawWe acknowledge the traditional owners, both past and present, of the various locations Flinders University operates on, and recognise their continued relationship and responsibility to these lands and waters. We recognise that Flinders was established on the lands of the Kaurna nation, with the main Flinders campus located near Warriparinga Welcome to the June edition of the College newsletter. The past month we have lost two esteemed staff members: Professor Don DeBats and Ms Sandra Howe-Piening. After a career of 50+ years at Flinders, Don leaves a substantial institutional legacy, which includes the Jeff Bleich Centre for Democracy and Disruptive Technologies, the Washington Internship Program, and the Fulbright Visiting Professorship. Don’s legacy will be honoured by Fulbright Don DeBats Distinguished Chair in Politics and Public Policy (funded by Flinders University). For her part, Sandra leaves at the time of our penultimate submission for AACSB accreditation, the culmination of more than six years’ work. We are profoundly indebted to Don and Sandra for their contributions. The past month has also featured some significant College events, including a City campus event for secondary school business teachers (as per our lead photograph above), the annual Academic Excellence Awards where our top students and prize donors come together in the City, and our annual Honours and Graduate Diploma in Research Methods Symposia at Bedford Park. Our newsletter includes coverage of these events, as well as updates on online strategy, research initiatives, $1.1M new research funding, staff profiles, and social media. Kind regards, Professor Michael Gilding WelcomeA warm welcome to the newest members of our community!
