Do some birds have their own design traditions when they build their nests? Maria Cristina Tello Ramos found that the roosts built by family groups of weavers had their own architectural style. Close observation of white-browed sparrow weavers in South Africa’s Tswalu Kalahari Reserve showed that environmental, physical or genetic attributes of different family groups didn’t influence the designs, suggesting that the shapes chosen might be the result of
social interactions.

A South African psychologist has spent years researching this, talking with women protesters to find out about the emotional rewards of their activism. Mpho Mathebula shares her findings about how naked protest is also an act of empowerment and joy.
