Dr Maeve Egan (Global Galway - English Language Centre) is leading the programme after hearing from refugees and their needs at a special welcome evening hosted by Acadamh na hOllscoilaíochta in Carna last month. The response of volunteers signing up to teach basic English was so good that within a week Dr Egan has organised classes three times a week to more than 130 refugees living on campus.
