Approximately Two Weeks Until Huron IRB Go-Live

Important Reminder: Huron Registration Deadline for Health System Users

All health system users who require access to Huron IRB must complete registration by May 11 to avoid complications with the registration process. Huron Access and Registration page

If there is any possibility that you previously had a Brown ID (for example, as a former student, employee, or affiliate) and will need access to Huron, you should register now. Waiting until after migration may result in delays due to additional troubleshooting requirements.

Transition Timeline (Quick Reference)

As we approach go-live, please keep the following key dates in mind:

  • IRBNet is now closed to new submissions

  • All new project submissions must be submitted in Huron IRB

  • May 12: Final data pull from IRBNet

  • May 20 (evening): Data loaded into Huron IRB

  • May 21: Migrated studies go live in Huron IRB

If you have an urgent review or submission need related to an existing IRBNet study after May 4, please contact the HRPP team directly for guidance and assistance at IRB@brown.edu.

We appreciate everyone’s patience, flexibility, and collaboration as we move through the final transition period.

Data Migration Update

The migration process remains on track for May 21 go-live.

What will migrate:

  • Only active projects

  • Project-level information only, including:

    • Basic study information

    • Approval dates

    • Risk level

    • Other core study metadata

  • A complete list of fields can be found here

What will not automatically migrate:

  • Active study documents and attachments

After migration, study teams will need to begin by populating the Huron study record with current active study documents.

Proxy & Submission Permissions

Please note the following important updates regarding proxy assignments:

  • Proxy lists for migration are now closed

  • Existing proxies previously reported to HRPP will be preloaded into Huron during migration

  • After migration, proxy assignments can be easily edited directly within Huron

User permissions in Huron will function as follows:

  • Study personnel may create and edit submissions

  • Only Principal Investigators (PIs) and designated PI Proxies may submit studies

We encourage teams to review their anticipated proxy needs in advance of go-live.

Training & Support Resources

Training and support opportunities continue to expand as we approach implementation.

Available resources include:

  • On-demand training materials available on the HRPP Alignment Education Center

  • Live training sessions listed on the HRPP Training Calendar

  • Self-registration available directly through the training calendar

  • Extensive PI guidance and submission resources available on the Submit Your Human Subjects Research Study page

We strongly encourage all study teams to participate in training prior to go-live.

Don’t Forget: SHIP & The Researcher Channel

Continue to take advantage of our support resources:

  • SHIP (System Help & Information Portal) for guides, FAQs, and system updates

  • The Researcher Channel for shared learning, tips, and community discussion

These tools are designed to support a successful transition for all users.
