The Live Action Lawmakers Summit was just last week. We are SO grateful to you for supporting Unplanned Good so we could sponsor an adoption section of the conference. We did this for the first time last year and it was VERY well received again! I'll post the videos of our talks there as soon as I get them, but in the meantime, here's the audio. Enjoy!

LIVEACTION Lawmakers' Summit 2025
So grateful to have the chance to share Idaho's new pro-adoption legislation with the 95 lawmakers who attended this Summit from 35 different States! We explained our three new bills in 2025:
- S1046, fetal development education added to health ed classes in Idaho,
- S1058, babies placed in an Idaho Safe Haven will no longer go into the foster system, as in 47 other States. Instead, they'll go to an adoptive family ASAP,and
- SCR 105 lays the groundwork for Federal dollars to go to State programs to advance adoption education and birth mother care & support. We wanted all the States to know about this opportunity to invest in adoption!
It's such a fabulous opportunity to spread the word about the adoption bills we worked on last year. We hope that many legislators will bring these ideas back to their own States to introduce them next Session!
We were joined at the Lawmakers' Summit by 15 fabulous Idaho legislators.
Less than 1% of the 2.8 million women who face unplanned pregnancies each year in the USA choose adoption.
We want to change that!

At the Live Action Lawmakers Summit Aug 1-2, we announced the Third Option initiative and launched the web site: TheThirdOption.org/
Any State that wants to advance education about adoption as an option for unplanned pregnancy and improve birth mother care can become a "Third Option" State. Check out the web site here and get on our mailing list so we can follow up with you.

The Adoption Paradox
This is an excellent article by my friend, Ryan Hanlon, who is CEO of the National Council for Adoption. In it, he and Eli Kirk, explain the reasons why most Americans view adoption favorably, YET fewer than 1% of the women facing unplanned pregnancy choose to make an adoption plan for their babies. It's a fascinating read!
California Parents & Grandparents
Please get updated on AB495. If you do, you will know why you need to fight this with all your might. AB495, a so-called "Family Preparedness Plan Act of 2025", would give adults with a "mentoring relationship" with a child custody-like powers through a simple one-page form.
- No court appearance.
- No notarization
- No parental consent
- No parenting notification.
- No background check.
- No ID verification.
NO WAY is this a good idea. Please fight this to preserve parental rights.
VOTE 'NO' on AB495. Preserve family units.

Open adoption is a form of adoption in which the biological and adoptive families have each other's contact information and varying degrees of contact with each other, by phone, in person and/or through social media.

All of this is about spreading the word about open adoption -- a reasonable option for women facing unplanned pregnancy. The 1970s and 80s were all about closed adoptions. Then we discovered the beauty of open adoption. Learn more about open adoption in this short video.
