![]() Maintenance work starting this weekTuesday 8 July Two essential maintenance projects on critical components of the Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant are being carried out this week. The work is being undertaken to maintain the reliability of the treatment processes at the plant. We're hopeful that the maintenance work will help us minimise odour events during future summer-to-winter transition periods. Each project will take approximately one day to complete, and work is weather dependent. We expect both projects will be complete by the end of this week. Sludge surveyOur contractors are carrying out a sludge survey on a number of the oxidation ponds. This will provide us with valuable information about the biological health of the ponds, which will help inform future decisions. The aerators on oxidation pond 1 will be shut down while our contractor is carrying out the survey to enable our contractors to work safely between the aerators. Electrical work at temporary sludge plantLater this week the temporary activated sludge plant will be shut down for approximately four hours to allow for essential high voltage electrical work. Odour impactsWe don't anticipate that this work will have a significant impact on odour, but it could contribute to a higher waste-load going into the ponds which could have a minor impact on odour over the next couple of weeks.
