Members vote YES for strike action

Kia ora Member,

Congratulations! PHC MECA members have voted overwhelmingly to take industrial action over the impasse we have reached in pay talks with employers.

In a ballot held this afternoon, 92 percent of PHC MECA members voted to strike from 10am until 2pm on Thursday 27 October..

Combined strike action

You will be pleased to know that your Primary Health Care colleagues working for Healthcare New Zealand/NZ Care and Plunket have also voted to strike on Thursday 27 October from 10am until 2pm. We now have a unique opportunity to draw public attention to the unequal and disparate terms and conditions we all face across Primary Health Care. There will be a visible wave of strikes across the Primary Health Care sector all at the same time on the same day.

It will also be an opportunity to put pressure on the funders to ensure members achieve Pay Parity with HNZ Te Whatu Ora members.

Next week we will update you on rallies and other visible activities we are planning for our strike. This next update will also have information about striking and your rights, and responsibilities during industrial action.

We can also confirm that we have issued formal notice of this strike to PHC MECA Employers.

Keep up the united front. Together, we are stronger! Maranga Mai!
