What's On in the Arts in Central Otago - September
We are thrilled to welcome back acclaimed abstract artist Nicola Bennett
to lead two more inspiring workshops this spring! On Tuesday 9 September, 9:30–11:30 AM at Alexandra Community House, Nicola will guide an Abstract Charcoal Workshop. Using sound as your inspiration, you’ll experiment with mark-making, gesture, and tone to create rich textures and a full tonal spectrum. Nicola will share practical tips on building strong, balanced compositions while encouraging you to develop your own unique visual language. Then on Thursday 16 October, 9:30–11:30 AM at Alexandra Community House, join Nicola for an Acrylic Painting Workshop. Unlock the secrets of colour as you learn how to mix vibrant, harmonious palettes, explore colour mapping and palette-building, and gain confidence with acrylic techniques. Whether you’re just starting out or refining your practice, you’ll leave inspired and equipped to create bold, balanced works of your own. From 11–31 October 2025, at Central Stories Museum & Art Gallery the Arts Trust will show A Muster of Creatives. This vibrant exhibition unites twenty artists who participated in the Creative Entrepreneur Workshops organised by The Central Otago District Arts Trust earlier this year. Visitors can expect an eclectic mix of painting, photography, printmaking, ceramics, mosaics, fashion, floristry, writing, woodcraft, and design. More than just an exhibition, this event is a celebration of imagination, identity, and the creative spirit that flourishes in our region. Showcasing the talents of both established artists and first-time exhibitors,
the exhibition offers an inspiring glimpse into Central Otago’s artistic heartbeat. Immerse yourself in the arts this spring and enjoy everything on offer in Central Otago.
