Meets Tuesdays evenings at 5:30 PM, quarterly in the HUB6520/virtually. Participants should send a draft of their grant 1-2 weeks prior to the meeting for dissemination to peer reviewers. A team in the Office of Research supported the publishing of a new Research Training website on mcw.edu. The new site provides better search functionality and a consistent look and feel for users. The former site, train.mcw.edu, was built using a web design tool that is no longer supported and will be discontinued.  Add the new Research Training website to your favorites for quick access to a variety of resources, including:

Presenting authors for abstracts that have been accepted for either Quickshot or Plenary oral presentation will have 2 weeks from the time of notification to Accept or Decline the invitation to present.

Presenting authors that have accepted the invitation to present at the annual meeting are required to register for the meeting by the Early Bird Registration Deadline on August 3, 2023.

Western Surgical Association (WSA) 2023 Annual Meeting
November 2-5, 2023 | Dana Point, CA
Abstract deadline: June 5, 2023

Presentation Types:

• Oral- Accepted oral presentations will be required to submit a manuscript to the Journal of the American College of Surgeons (JACS). Additionally, a WSA Member must close the discussion of your paper at the WSA 2023 Annual Meeting. If your abstract is not selected as an Oral presentation, it will automatically be considered for an ePoster presentation.
• ePoster- Non-podium presentation opportunity that does not require manuscript submission.
• Video - Video presentations do not require manuscript submission. If your video is not selected for podium presentation, it will be considered for a one-slide pdf ePoster presentation.

Basic Science - abstract would include bench research that involves laboratory studies with cell cultures, animal models or physiologic experiments.

Clinical Science - abstract would include the use of randomized controlled trials, observational trials, retrospective studies, database analysis involving humans/human samples that examine disease/ diagnostics/ drugs/ devices/biologics or outcomes.  Clinical Case Reviews or Series are not permitted.
