From the MayorI’m pleased to announce Council has a new Deputy Mayor! St Ives Ward Councillor Martin Smith has been elected as Deputy Mayor until September 2026. Cr Smith has lived in Ku-ring-gai for more than 25 years and was first elected to Council in 2017. He brings a wealth of local knowledge and experience to the role, and I look forward to working with him.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to the outgoing Deputy Mayor Cr Kim Wheatley for her service over the past year. Next month Council is hosting a special event for women in the community to learn more about menopause and how to stay healthy in this important stage of life. The 2025 Menopause Forum will be held on 23 October at Ku-ring-gai Council Chambers in Gordon. Expert speakers from medical and allied health professions will share advice on menopause and perimenopause, physical and emotional health, lifestyle adjustments to manage symptoms and improve quality of life. It’s free to attend. To find out more or to book just visit our website. This week we also announced $91K in grants to prevent domestic and family violence and support survivors. The Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Grants will be awarded to the Hornsby-Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter, Rotary Club of West Pennant Hills, KYDS Youth Development Service Incorporated, Learning Links and the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Community College. The grants will help fund some amazing projects for children and adults impacted by violence. These grants are part of Council’s broader action plan to prevent domestic and family violence. Our focus is on education, community partnerships, and advocacy to drive long-term change. Have a safe and happy long
weekend. Mayor Christine Kay
