Kia ora, We’re pleased to let you know we’re about to start work on the next stage of Te Ara O-Rakipaoa Nor’West Arc cycleway. Stage 1 of the northernmost section, Aorangi Road between Brookside Terrace and Condell Avenue, was completed in February. This update has information about the upcoming work (Stage 2) and an invitation to our ‘meet-the-contractor’ session this weekend. We also published a story on Newsline yesterday about the works, which you can read here. Cycleway extension We’ll be extending the separated cycleway along the length of Matsons Avenue. We’ll then construct a small section of the Wheels to Wings cycleway along Harewood Road between Chapel Street and the railway line. This will connect the Northern Line cycleway to the Te Ara O-Rakipaoa Nor’West Arc cycleway. Wastewater work As part of the project, we’ll also be installing new wastewater and stormwater pipes on Matsons Avenue, Harewood Road and Chapel Street and a street renewal on Matsons Ave. These water and roading upgrades are being coordinated with the cycleway project, to help reduce the overall construction time. Staging of worksIsaac Construction has been awarded the contract for the project. Works are expected to be finished by December and are part of the wider Northwest programme of water and roading upgrades, which got under way in January this year. The contractor will be on site between 25 May and 30 May to complete enabling works, identify existing underground services and understand ground conditions. Temporary traffic management will be in place, but two-lane traffic will be maintained during these works. Construction is anticipated to start on Tuesday 2 June with work taking place across three zones at the same time, as shown on the map below.
