Improvements at Mimosa Rocks National Park

Project update, February 2026

You are receiving this update as you have registered on the project webpage or have been identified as a project stakeholder.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is delivering improvements at Mimosa Rocks National Park on the NSW South Coast to boost flood resilience, sustainability and visitor safety at the popular park.

The project is funded through the NSW and Australian Government’s Infrastructure Betterment Fund program to support the repair and rebuilding of public assets directly impacted in several natural disasters since 2019.

Thank you for your ongoing interest in the project. We will continue to update you as the project progresses.

Acknowledgement of Country

Mimosa Rocks National Park is part of Yuin Country. We acknowledge Elders past, present and emerging, and respect the rights and aspirations of the Yuin People as custodians of their Country.

Work at Nelsons Beach precinct has begun

Work has commenced on improvements to visitor infrastructure at the Nelsons Beach precinct including:

  • upgrading drainage and road surfaces to reduce erosion and sedimentation
  • increasing parking capacity, including new accessible parking spaces
  • installing fencing and information signs

From February to mid-2026 the following areas will be closed to all access to enable completion of the work:

  • Nelsons Beach Road and carpark
  • Moon Bay access
  • Wajurda Point lookout

An exclusion zone is in place around the construction area, and visitors are reminded not to enter closed areas or bypass signs and barriers.

Mimosa Rocks National Park will remain open to visitors during this time. Plan your trip and check for alerts before visiting at nswparks.info.

The works on Yuin Country will be delivered in accordance with strict environmental and cultural heritage planning approvals.

The work is the first stage of the infrastructure improvement project in the park, and aims to safeguard the park against future weather events, better protect natural and cultural values and improve visitor safety and access.

The concept map below shows the improvements being delivered at the Nelsons Beach road and carpark. The maps are also available on the project webpage.

Work at Nelsons Beach precinct is expected to kick off in early February 2026.

Campground improvements

Improvement work at Middle Beach, Gillards and Aragunnu campgrounds is expected to commence in 2026, following environmental and cultural heritage planning approvals.

For safety, the campgrounds will be temporarily closed during construction. Visitors are encouraged to check the NPWS webpage for closure alerts before travel.

Where possible, works will be delivered outside peak holiday periods to minimise disruption.

Proposed improvements are shown in the concept maps below, and can also be viewed on the project webpage.
