Digital skills: This edition of the newsletter highlights some of the activity which is underway across a range of different partners which can help to develop digital skills in rural Scotland. Future editions will provide an update on different sectors or regions in rural Scotland. Develop Digital Skills with LinkedIn Learning Adults over the age of 24, living anywhere in Scotland, have the opportunity to access LinkedIn Learning for free via the My World of Work careers site. This is part of a Digitally Enabled Learning Pilot funded through the National Transition Training Fund. There is access to a broad range of online learning with over 16,000 courses across business, creative and technology skillsets. South of Scotland Digital Skills Hub The Digital Skills Hub, a collaboration between Dumfries & Galloway College and Borders College, will launch in 2022. This new model of delivery will help the region become more competitive and will tackle digital exclusion by creating digital learning, training and development opportunities for individuals and employers in the region; creating a pool of digital talent to support the region’s key sectors. Investing in the Digital Workforce of the Future Sitekit, a technology company based in Skye, is creating routes into digital careers in rural Scotland through a range of different Foundation, Modern and Graduate Apprenticeship opportunities. They've overcome a number of challenges to help develop and retain the talent their local community needs, while investing in their tech workforce of the future. Digital Start Fund Training to access a range of jobs in Scotland’s digital sector is now available thanks to the latest phase of the Digital Start Fund. People who are unemployed or those on lower incomes can apply for a grant between £1,000 and £8,000 to cover training in software development, cyber security and other digital fields, and help create pathways into well-paid employment tech roles. Using Digital Technology to Promote Skill Sharing Skillseeder is a new app designed to promote skills sharing by connecting those with a skill to share with those who are looking to learn. Trainers and experts can list a skill or course that they would like to share with others, and learners can use the app, no matter where they live, to search for skills that they would like to develop, either online or in person. Digital Learning Opportunities in the North East The Future Skills Partnership brings together educational partners delivering digital learning in the North East, giving people access to the very latest offer in digital learning and education, and helps enhance digital skills in the region. Opportunities are available from providers such as University of Aberdeen, The Data Lab, Codeclan, Robert Gordon University and North East Scotland College. Growbiz Learning Programme Check out the blog for the Skills Action Plan for Rural Scotland from Jackie Brierton, Director of Growbiz, who has been working with small rural businesses in the Cairngorms to help build new skills through the use of digital technology. Growbiz run a series of free online learning sessions in areas such as social media, using Instagram and creating online content, amongst others. Useful links
