WELCOME BACK!

The Fall 2017 semester has officially begun! Campus is once again buzzing with life and we are all excited for a busy and productive year. As you know, we are entering our second year as our very own school, so this marks the first edition of our School of Communication newsletter!

We hope to use this platform to keep you informed of School of Communication happenings and opportunities for SoC students. Look for a new edition at the mid-point of each month!

Who should you know in Doti Hall?

You know your professors. You went to Costa Rica with LaBelle. You've worked with Bartosh at Chapman Radio. You've met Dean Sparks. But who else should you know in the School of Communication? Are those SoC students speaking about graduate school in your classes and scheduling your Instagram takeover?

Yes, yes they are!

Get to know these familiar faces this semester by clicking on their names below. When you see them in Doti, introduce yourself and learn about all of the opportunities the School of Communication has to offer!

Peace Communication Interterm Travel Course

Applications are still being accepted for Peace Communication, an interdisciplinary travel course to Costa Rica during Interterm 2018! Join Dr. LaBelle (Strategic and Corporate Communication) and Dr. Leitz (Peace Studies) on a trip to Costa Rica to visit with and learn about various organizations that pursue peace and social justice, and experience real world applications of communication and peace studies research. Working with the United Nations-mandated University for Peace, students will learn about local efforts in Costa Rica to build peace, overcome poverty, and enrich environmental and human sustainability, as well as the efforts of international diplomacy and peacebuilding via the United Nations and affiliated organizations.

There is still time to be a part of this exciting and inspiring travel course, but the limited number of spots are filling up, so apply soon!

For more information (including a sample syllabus and travel costs) visit the Global Education site for the course here.

If you are interested in coming to Costa Rica, fill out the preliminary application no later than September 25th, 2017.

You can also email Dr. LaBelle with questions (labelle@chapman.edu)

Thanks for Sharing your SoCks!

The Houston Food Bank was grateful for donations from the Chapman University School of Communication (and our partners at Imperial Elementary in Anaheim). Together, we donated close to 3,000 items for residents of the Houston area impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

Thank you for showing your true colors, SoC.

Stay tuned for more SoC opportunities to help communities ravaged by natural disasters.
