Scottish Rural Childminding Partnership

A new partnership is being piloted to attract more people into childminding in rural Scotland. It hopes to create much-needed childcare provision in rural communities and offer opportunities for those considering a career in childminding. Participants on the programme will have access to a package of support including induction training, one-to-one support and start-up grant funding.

A Career in Childminding Reaps Rewards

A new case study from Skills Development Scotland showcases the experience of Jemma Hogan, a childminder from Inverness who talks about why childminding is such a rewarding career. She talks about some of the benefits of being a childminder including the impact you have on children (and their families) lives, the flexibility it affords and the fact that no two days are the same.

Remote and Rural Festival of Learning, September on Skye

From 19 – 30 of September 2022, the Isle of Skye will host the Remote and Rural Festival of Learning bringing together Health & Social Care professionals and community members to deliver a diverse range of models of Health & Social Care practice, education, training and digital innovation. Topics include: Career pathways and recruitment in remote, rural and island communities; and digital innovation and entrepreneurship for healthcare professionals.

Introduction to a Career in Social Care

Several colleges across Scotland are currently offering a new online ‘Introduction to a Career in Social Care’ course which gives students an introduction to working in the sector and highlights the many varied career pathways on offer within the sector. The course runs for six weeks, and participants will be able to work their way through the learning materials at their own pace.

Health & Social Care Pathways at Borders College

Borders College Technology Enhanced Care Hub offers a wide range of Health & Social Care courses ranging from entry level to degree level, helping to meet demand for well-trained staff in the sector. Courses offered include full-time, part-time and short courses as well as Modern and Foundation Apprenticeships for new entrants but also for upskilling existing workers. This video showcases the training facilities at the college.
