Council approves Arena's Preliminary DesignThe preliminary design of the Canterbury Multi-Use Arena has been approved, clearing the way for work to begin on the next phase of the design development. Three new preliminary design images have also been published, showing the scale and size of the arena in the context of the central city. The images were created by Christchurch-based architects Warren & Mahoney and international stadium design experts Populous, who are part of the Kōtui consortium. Te Kaha accepted as new name for Multi-Use ArenaAt today’s meeting, the Council approved a new gifted name for the half-a-billion-dollar facility. Noise management rules given the green lightBusinesses and neighbours of Te Kaha have been given certainty about how many concerts and large events can be held there, after the Council’s recommended planning rule changes to manage noise were approved. The next steps...March 2022 - Early Works begins on site. April 2022 - Council approval sought on Developed Design. June 2022 - Final bid and Design & Construction contract recommendation. July 2022 - Design and Construct contract appointment, followed immediately by construction commencing. Mid-2025 - Te Kaha construction completed.
