From the Mayor
Thank you to all the wonderful people who donated to my Christmas Appeal on behalf of Lifeline Harbour to the Hawkesbury Sydney. Lifeline volunteers will now pack donated items into hampers and deliver them to residents who are isolated or facing financial hardship.
I’m delighted to announce that nominations are now open for the 2026 Women’s Leadership and Inspiration Award. This award is a meaningful way to celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of women in our community. If you know someone who has championed gender equality or empowered women, I encourage you to nominate them today.
There’s also still time to get your nomination in for the Local Citizen of the Year awards. Help us uncover deserving citizens who generously donate their time and effort to help others and improve Ku-ring-gai. Nominations close this Sunday 14 December.
As this is my final Mayor’s Message for the year, I’d like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Christmas and New Year opening hoursDetails of opening hours across Council over the festive period. There are no changes to the waste collection schedule. Place bins out on your regular collection day including Christmas Day and New Years Day. |
Flood Risk Management CommitteeWe're looking for a community reps to join our Flood Risk Management Committee. Applications close on 8 February. |
Sharing school spaceSome local public schools are open these school holidays as part of the Share Our Space program. Beaumont Road, Gordon West, Lindfield, Roseville and Warrawee public schools are participating. |
Drink and drug drivingDriving with alcohol and drugs in your system puts yourself and other people at risk. Harsh penalties for combined drink and drug driving offences apply. |
Double demeritsDouble demerits start on 24 December and continue until 4 January. Police will target speeding, illegal mobile phone use, seatbelt and motorcycle helmet offences. |

Ku-ring-gai Art Centre
The Ku-ring-gai Art Centre has lots of creative workshops and events for kids, teens and toddlers.
Wildflower Garden
School holiday fun at Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden with a range of nature based themes including survival skills, animal encounters, nature detectives and water play.
Vacation Care
Flip Out Gladesville, Immersive Gamebox Sydney, Macquarie Ice Rink and Hijinx Hotel are just some of the activities planned for our summer vacation care program!
Youth events and activities
Leading up to Christmas we have some fun workshops for 12-24 year olds including robotics and AI, e-bikes, art, ping pong and intergenerational kitchen.
Ku-ring-gai Library
Create, explore and be entertained in our libraries with coding and Lego clubs, craft-a-noons, construction play and Dungeons and Dragons gaming.
Summer golf clinics
Our junior golf clinics will hone those chipping, putting and golf etiquette skills.

Charles Bean Oval surface renewal
Council is seeking community feedback on the renewal of the synthetic turf playing surface of Charles Bean Oval, Lindfield. The oval’s current synthetic turf surface is nearing the end of its useful life and requires renewal in the near future.

Dual Occupancy Development Control Plan
Council invites comment from the community on the amendment to the Ku-ring-gai Development Control Plan to insert a new Draft Part 5: Dual Occupancy. This will include. development controls for dual occupancy dwellings.

Proposed road closure – Denley Lane, Durham Avenue, Cowan Lane
Council has received an application to close and purchase Council owned road off Mona Vale Road at St Ives.

Acquisition and Divestment of Land Policy
The Acquisition and Divestment of Land Policy is being publicly exhibited before being adopted by Council. The changes include updates in legislation and minor wording amendments.

Park Avenue, Gordon - proposed raised pedestrian (wombat) crossing
Council is proposing to replace the existing ground-level pedestrian crossing on Park Avenue (west of Werona Avenue) with a raised 'wombat' crossing.
