In Case You Missed It

  • Student/Resident Research Mentorship Database: The Division of Research is implementing initiatives to organize the process of matching research residents and medical students with faculty members for research opportunities. These opportunities are to be strictly for volunteer work done by the student. Specifics on task work is completely up to the faculty member’s discretion. If you are interested in mentoring, please fill out this Qualtrics survey.
  • NIH Scientific Data Sharing Website: Whether you are involved in an NIH-funded project and want to understand which sharing policies apply to your research and how to comply, or you are a researcher looking to access scientific data from NIH-affiliated repositories, this site is for you. | More information
  • Grant Writing Club: Designed for anyone in the grant writing process, provides peer feedback on grants prior to or after to submission. Participants should send a draft of their grant 1-2 weeks prior to the meeting for dissemination to peer reviewers. The club is highly interactive and participants are required to review and/or submit. Please email Rachel Morris, MD if you are interested in participating.
  • Department of Surgery Intranet Site: Cultural Complications/Grand Rounds/Quality Minute presentations, Surgery Sparks of Gratitude, Global Surgical Programs, Finance/Reimbursement links, DOS Phone list, and resources for logos/fonts/templates. | More Information

SurPASS Tip of the Month

What Early Career Researches Should Know (Part 1)

Embarking on a research career is more than doing experiments and writing NIH grant applications. How does one early in their career learn about these other important skills, and what exactly are they? Here we will relay experiences and lessons learned on finding the right mentor, importance of open communication, networking, career progression and opportunities, and much more. This episode of a two-part NIH All About Grants Podcast mini-series explores the “hidden curriculum” for early career researchers.

FH Office of Clinical Research & Innovative Care Compliance (OCRICC)

Froedtert Health OCRICC is responsible for providing administrative approval to conduct research in all of the Froedtert Health (FH) affiliates. This approval includes Medicare Coverage Analysis (MCA) for any services billed by a Froedtert Health Affiliate and validation of operational feasibility from the institution’s perspective. Even with IRB approval, a project requiring use of any FH resource cannot begin activities without final administrative approval granted though OCRICC.

If you are unsure whether the resources involved in your project are FH resources or are unclear exactly what resources you will need for your project, we strongly recommend you contact OCRICC prior to your IRB submission at ocricc@froedtert.com or 414-805-4082 to discuss.
