THE SUNRISE STATE ARTWORK UNVEILED AT
DESTINATION NSW An artwork by Craig Layer - The Sunrise State - has been unveiled at the Destination NSW office in Sydney.
The artwork has been created as a symbol of the enduring partnership between Destination NSW and NSW Aboriginal Tourism Operators Council (NATOC) and to acknowledge the contribution that Aboriginal culture makes to the growth and sustainability of the NSW visitor economy.
Its title - The Sunrise State - reflects NSW being the first to see and benefit from the rising sun in Australia each day and the cultural connections of First Nations People on the East Coast and inland NSW.
Mr Layer, who is CEO of NATOC, said: "The story behind the artwork intertwines the journey of Aboriginal culture in NSW and NATOC's relationship with Destination NSW.
"It also illustrates that, while each mob in NSW has different stories, their Song Lines are intertwined."
Clarence Slockee from the Bundjalung Nation, who is Director of Indigenous landscaping company Jiwah and a Gardening Australia presenter, gave a rousing Acknowledgement to Country at the event.
Destination NSW CEO Steve Cox joined with Destination NSW staff, including General Manager Policy, Product and Engagement Stephen Mahoney and Aboriginal Experiences Product Manager Sarah Allen, to celebrate the unveiling of The Sunrise State.
Mr Cox said Aboriginal tourism experiences put the 'feel' in the Feel NSW brand.
"The vibrant, diverse living Aboriginal culture in NSW offers visitors life-changing opportunities to 'Feel New'," Mr Cox said. "The Sunrise State encapsulates why showcasing and developing authentic, accessible and compelling Aboriginal experiences is key to NSW being the premier visitor economy in the Asia Pacific."

CENTRAL RIVER CITY WORKSHOP Visitor economy stakeholders have provided input on the new Destination Management Plan (DMP) for Central River City. Stakeholders in the Blacktown, Canterbury-Bankstown, Cumberland, Parramatta and The Hills local government areas attended a Destination NSW workshop last week at PARKROYAL Parramatta. The workshop gave councils, businesses, Aboriginal stakeholders, universities, industry associations, potential investors, and other stakeholders the opportunity to give their feedback on gaps and opportunities in the DMP, plus pathways to realising them. Member for Parramatta Dr Geoff Lee gave the opening address, while a panel discussion featured Amanda Brisot (General Manager, Western Sydney Business Connection), Stevan Sipka (Executive Manager Aero Partnerships, Western Sydney Airport), Joshua French (Acting Chief Executive, Greater Sydney Parklands), Susan Skuodas (Director, Place Management, Sydney Olympic Park) and David Borger (Executive Director, Business Western Sydney).
GROWING CONFIDENCE IN BUSINESS EVENTS Confidence in the business events sector is returning and regional NSW operators have the opportunity to raise their profiles with key decision makers via a free listing on the Destination NSW Meet In NSW website. A Tourism Australia survey has revealed 84 per cent of decision-makers are planning events within the next six to 12 months, the highest figure since the start of the pandemic. Additionally, 95 per cent of those responsible for planning events offshore stated they are likely to relocate one or more of them to Australia over the next 12 months. The vast majority of businesses planning to hold domestic events in the future estimated that the number of events intended, the number of attendees per event and the allocated budget of their domestic event(s) would be similar if not greater than pre-COVID-19 levels. Destination NSW Associate
Director of Regional Conferencing Mitchell Gunn said operators could upload a listing to the Meet in Regional NSW website in just five to 10 minutes. "Meetinnsw.com.au offers a free, digital marketing platform for regional stakeholders that generates more than 17,000 individual leads for business event venues and suppliers per year," Mr Gunn said. "There has been more than 40 per cent growth in lead generation to the website since 2018. This can be attributed to the significant funds and resources Destination NSW invests to increase traffic to meetinnsw.com.au via paid search
and new content creation." The Meet in Regional NSW website is the main call to action for all Destination NSW Regional Conferencing team sales and marketing activities, meaning that a listing helps raise your business profile at trade shows, sales activities and via marketing campaigns undertaken by Destination NSW. Ulladulla Civic Centre Manager Michelle Babington said: "The Ulladulla Civic Centre recently hosted the NSW Marine Rescue conference as a result of our listing on the Meet In Regional NSW website. The conference had more than 100 attendees and ran over two days, with a formal dinner evening on the Saturday night. "Most of the attendees travelled to the conference and required two nights of
accommodation in the Milton-Ulladulla region during their visit. The event was very well received, with the organisers praising the weekend as a huge success."
