Te Kaha Surrounding Streets
Stadium footpaths finished, lanes reopenedOver the last few weeks, we've been finishing the footpaths around the stadium and tying them into the stadium precinct. Asphalt and paving has been laid along Barbadoes, Tuam and Madras Streets. Our contractors have also added street furniture, bike stands and a new bus shelter. The work is now finished and the lane closures on Barbadoes, Tuam and Madras Streets have been lifted. The temporary fences around the stadium have been shifted off the road to the stadium boundary on Tuam and Madras Streets and to the edge of the footpath on Barbadoes Street. The fences will remain in place to keep the stadium secure. Early next year, the team will freshen up the line markings and green cycleway paint, and generally make sure everything is shipshape ahead of the stadium opening in April. Thank you for your patience while the work was carried out. Finishing the footpaths brings the city's new stadium another step closer to completion.
Speed consultation decisionChristchurch City Councillors decided against proposed lower speed limits around the stadium at their meeting on 10 December. A range of new speed limits around One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha were due to come into effect this year. However, the Government’s new Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2024, which came into force after the project was approved by the Council, did not allow changes approved under the previous rule to go ahead. The Council had to reconsult the community on new proposed speed limits which comply with the updated rule. People could provide their between 26 May and 26 August 2025 at letstalk.ccc.govt.nz/tekahaspeeds. The following speed limits will remain for the streets around the stadium:
