HD Good News Friday, April 15th, 2022 “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” – Matthew 26:39
Hello my lovely friend, This week, many of us are celebrating Holy Week. The observance begins with Palm Sunday and ends with Easter, also known as Resurrection Sunday. Today is Good Friday and God has put a deep message on my heart for You! And it’s about the humanity of Jesus and the suffering he endured, as an act of Love. Let’s travel back to The Upper Room, where The Last Supper took place... Jesus and His disciples were sharing a simple meal at The Table. This betrayal would lead to His arrest, trial and crucifixion. After the meal Jesus and His disciples went to The Garden of Gethsemane near the Old City of Jerusalem. Faced with the reality of the suffering that awaited Him, Jesus asked His closest friends to pray. Jesus was in so much agony that He sweated blood. He was overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death and fell on his face and prayed… “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” This is a powerful scripture because it shows that… Although Jesus is fully God, He is also fully human. Jesus is the Messiah, whose purpose has been prophesied and sealed since the beginning of time. Yet here we see a trembling man, pleading to God The Father for a way out. It is important to note what is being declared. “If it is possible” if there is any other way to do this, please grant it to me. “Yet I want your will to be done, not mine” But I am committed to doing what pleases you, regardless of my own desires. Here, we witness Jesus conquering His human desires and fears to accomplish God’s Will for His Life. The suffering He endured is an act of Love to redeem humanity. In Life we all have our own cup. There are times where God will take us through situations we don’t want to face. And we question Him, “why am I going through this, please take this out of my life.” But once we go through it, it will be beneficial for us. In these times we are faced with the same scenario that Christ faced .We have a cup that we don’t want to bear. As humans our nature is to avoid suffering and we seek to do things our own way. This is why we need Jesus to remind us that God’s Will be done. What Cup has God given you, that you would prefer not to drink. How can you surrender your will to His Perfect Will that will ultimately lead to your benefit and the benefit of those around you ? I look forward to reading your responses.
