![]() A note from the Community BoardThe Christmas break flew past and suddenly we are back into the swing of things. The shift into the red setting saw the cancellation of a number events and the Board and Council staff have had to carefully rethink how it delivers some of its services and activities to the community. Under the current a red setting, Board meetings are being held by audio visual link. The meetings will be live streamed via YouTube. The last two Community Board meetings saw the Board move two reports with proposed names for new streets in the Halswell Ward. The naming of streets is a very interesting process, a recent Newsline story highlighted some of factors developers must consider when naming a road. ![]() Items of note from recent meetingsThe disc golf course at Warren Park has received its last funding installation from the Rata Foundation. The project is now fully funded and work to install it can begin later this year. The Board has also approved funding for the Halswell Scout group. This money will go towards replacing the Scout Den roof. Finally, we have heard that there is growing interest in people volunteering with the Council Graffiti Teams. Anyone who is interested should reach out to Council via email at graffitiprogramme@ccc.govt.nz. ![]() In the NewsFundraising efforts underway for new hydrotherapy poolA hydrotherapy pool has been added to the list of new facilities being built for residents in the south-west of Christchurch, with community fundraising set to play a key role in allowing its addition. In response to strong community demand, Christchurch City Council has agreed to add a hydrotherapy pool to the new multi-use centre that is currently under construction at Kyle Park in Hornby. Community fundraising is now underway, led by the Rotary Club of Hornby and the Greater Hornby Residents’ Association. ![]() A safer cycleway coming to you!Council has approved construction of the third and final section of Te Ara O-Rakipaoa Nor’West Arc Cycleway, linking Papanui to the University of Canterbury. This 4km section of cycleway goes along Ilam Road, Aorangi Road and Matsons Avenue. Running from Princess Margaret Hospital to Harewood Road, the cycleway is making it safer for all road users – cyclists, pedestrians and drivers. Separating bikes from cars means there’s more room on the road for everyone. ![]() Christchurch: The Growth ChallengeIn the coming weeks and months, you will be hearing and seeing lots of information from Christchurch City Council about changes we are proposing to our District Plan to accommodate for our continued growth and prosperity. We need to make sure that we are able to provide the transport infrastructure, services and housing to cater for that growth in a sustainable way.
