 August 2024

Brook

Inside this issue:

  • Introducing our newest venture: Sweetie's Spay and Neuter Squad!
  • Tickets now available for our Halloween Cat Blanket Fundraiser in Oyster Bay
  • Save the Date!  -- Adoption Event highlighting Seniors for Seniors at The Bristal Assisted Living in Westbury
  • Meet Brook -- the latest senior kitty to join our Seniors for Seniors program!

Thanks to a generous donation, we are excited to announce the launch of Sweetie's Spay (and neuter) Squad, a new initiative dedicated to reducing the stray cat population in Nassau County and promoting the health and well-being of our feline friends.

Sweetie

Named in honor of our donor's beloved cat named Sweetie, who recently passed away, the program offers free spay and neuter services (including vaccines), via vouchers through participating veterinarians, to our Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) community in Nassau County.  The vouchers are available now, so TNR groups are invited to apply away!

Halloween Cat Blanket Fundraiser

Please join us on Saturday, September 28th from 1-3 pm for our Halloween Cat Blanket Fundraiser to benefit our Seniors for Seniors Program.  Participants will make two "cat sized" blankets (roughly 3' x 3').  The cost is $30 per person and materials will be provided.   The funds raised will help us continue to pay for the medical care of senior cats adopted by senior citizens.

Participants can either keep the blankets or donate one or both to the sanctuary for Tammy and her friends. The event will be held at the Hive Market right in downtown Oyster Bay! Space is limited so please reserve your spot soon and we hope to see you there.

Save the Date:  Saturday, October 26th - for an Adoption Event at The Bristal in Westbury!

Dr. Susan's mother, Lillian with her cat Barney - while residing at The Bristal.

Please join us for a unique adoption event at The Bristal Assisted Living in Westbury located at 117 Post Avenue on Saturday, October 26th from 12 to 3 p.m.

This Halloween-themed event will highlight our Seniors for Seniors program which reduces barriers to pet adoption for seniors by continuing to pay all reasonable medical expenses for the cat and allowing senior cats to return to the Ladew Cat Sanctuary if their adopter becomes unable to care for them.

The Bristal will be decorated for Halloween and will provide cat cupcakes and Halloween themed finger-food.  Staff and volunteers of the Ladew Cat Sanctuary will be on hand to discuss our Seniors for Seniors Program and to introduce attendees to cats of all ages who are available for adoption.  The event is free and open to the public, although RSVP's are encouraged to info@theladewcatsanctuary.org.

Benefits of pet companionship for seniors include improved physical and mental health, improved quality of life, and longer lifespan.  In recognition of this:

  • The Bristal Senior Living Community allows residents to have cats and small dogs (conditions apply) and
  • The Ladew Foundation eliminates the two major barriers to seniors adopting pets -- the potential cost of medical care for the cat and worry about what if something happens to the adopter -- through its Seniors for Seniors Program.

Hope to see you there!

Meet Brooke!  Our Newest Intake for our Seniors for Seniors Program

8-year-old Brooke

Brooke is a sweet and affectionate 8-year-old cat who unfortunately lost her home due to a family member's allergies.  She is a gentle soul who loves cuddles and is always ready to share her love with her human companions.

Brooke is healthy, well-behaved and a snuggle buddy!  She is looking for a forever home where she can spend her days lounging in sunny spots and her nights cuddling up with her new family.

If you are looking for a loving and loyal companion, Brooke could be the perfect match for you.  Come meet her and give her the second chance she deserves.  If you're not looking to adopt right now, you can help by sponsoring her until she finds a new home.
