Welcome back!! It seems like just yesterday when we were wrapping up Adrenalin City Championships and getting ready to enjoy our summer. The 2024-25 hockey season is just around the corner, and we are looking forward to an exciting hockey season where all involved get an opportunity to develop their skills in the game that we love. As we prepare to head back to school and hit the rinks for the evaluation period, I wanted to provide you a brief update on some things to be aware of this season. Arena Update/ Water Restrictions: As everyone knows the City of Calgary is heading back into water restrictions at the end of August. The installation of ice and flooding of arenas requires significant water usage. The plan is to have the majority of facilities up and running by the end of August with the only requirement being the hourly floods. At this time we do not expect any disruptions in the operations of facilities, but we kindly ask that all hockey families do their best to conserve water during this period to ensure that all facilities remain open. Elite Hockey Leagues; New this year, all AA Leagues will operate under the Hockey Alberta AEHL League. This includes all U13 AA, U15 AA, U16 AA and U18 AA. Teams in this league will play in the ‘Calgary Division’, and teams played , the overall # of games and structure will be the same as seasons before, the only difference is you will now find your league standings and stats housed on the AEHL website, where the AAA leagues are currently found. The other major difference is that all games will utilize an e-game sheet through ‘Hockey Tech’ versus the old paper format. This is an alignment of all AA and AAA hockey across the province. Please see the link below, and you can select the division of play you are looking for: E- Game Sheet Pilot – U11: Hockey Calgary will be piloting the use of e-game sheets at the U11 level this season. We are working with Ramp to provide an online scoring platform that aligns to the Hockey Calgary Website. The team is working quickly to iron out the details and the plans are in place for it to be operational at the beginning of the season. If successful we will role out to more age categories next season. Over the course of the next few weeks the Member Associations (and their volunteer networks) have the unenviable task of evaluating players and sorting them into the appropriate level of play. This is not an easy task, and one which the Member Associations do not take lightly. We want to thank everyone for their support through this process and wish all players good luck as they compete to reach their desired team. On behalf of the Hockey Calgary staff, our Board of Directors, and our army of great volunteers we want to wish all players, coaches, teams, and Associations good luck this hockey season. We look forward to seeing everyone at the rink where you get to hang out with your friends, compete against your rivals and play the great game of hockey!
