Drummonds Jetty to be renewed

Drummonds Jetty in Akaroa will be rebuilt as part of Christchurch City Council’s Marine Structures Renewal Programme.

The renewed Drummonds Jetty will temporarily be used by commercial and recreational marine users while the main Akaroa Wharf is replaced.

The 33m long jetty will be rebuilt in the same location, but with a few changes, including:

• increasing the width from 2.4m to 3m to improve usability
• making the jetty one level, rather than stepped like the current design
• raising the entire jetty so it sits level with the shoreline.

Two temporary floating pontoons will also be installed at the end of Drummonds Jetty to ensure there’s enough space to accommodate users while Akaroa Wharf is being upgraded, and to allow larger vessels to dock in deeper waters.

Next steps
The next phase of the project includes developing a design for the new Drummonds Jetty and working with commercial and recreational users, as well as Beach Road businesses that operate near the jetty, to outline a plan for how Drummonds Jetty will be used while the Akaroa Wharf replacement work is underway.

Work is expected to get underway in 2024 and will be completed ahead of the Akaroa Wharf replacement project beginning.
