Update from the Dean of Education As our commencing and continuing students start semester 1 over the next few weeks, I’m looking forward to seeing our campuses come alive with student activities and engaging teaching. I’m fortunate enough to have upcoming trips planned to some of our rural and regional sites, including Mt Gambier and Renmark, where I’ll be able to welcome our very first intake of MD students into our South Australian Rural Medical program. The enormous amount of work that has gone into developing and implementing our first end-to-end rural medical program is a credit to all involved, and I look forward to meeting with staff and students at these sites. I’d also like to take the opportunity to announce the relaunch of the CMPH Learning and Teaching Academy (LTA). Chaired by Helen Anscombe, the LTA will provide a critical structure within which we can consolidate existing and develop new activities for learning and teaching innovation, enrichment, and scholarship. The LTA will become a critical hub of information and support for all staff engaged in education across the college, enabling connections across all of our sites and with our colleagues in all colleges throughout the university. The broader LTA leadership team is now in place, and I can’t wait to see the exciting activities they have planned for 2025! Dean, Education, College of Medicine and Public Health

Last week, SARM academic, professional, and support staff met in Renmark for orientation and team building, joined virtually by Michal Wozniak, Mt Gambier staff, and incoming academics. The day included an Acknowledgement of Country, team icebreakers, and an overview of the SARM program led by Sophie Hamilton and James Padley. Key highlights included the successful testing of Teams-Room links for seamless remote teaching. With 60 students starting in February, the team left with renewed enthusiasm and commitment to supporting students, staff, and rural communities in this ground-breaking education initiative.
