Autumn time has a very distinctive feel here in Central Otago; it's calm and almost too good to be true. I see lots of happy tourists wandering
around with their big flash cameras, busy capturing their views to share. Our jade blue rivers and lakes fringed with glowing deciduous trees are just too beautiful not to share. The intense colour explosion right now makes you feel fortunate to live in a place where our seasons are so diverse. With such gorgeous settled weather one could almost forget winter lurking around the corner .......
April was jam-packed with all manner of wonderful events but things are slowing down a little in May - it's always an in-between month. For the very first time this year, we have the touring 'Top Art Exhibition'
on in Alexandra. It features 30 of the 'best in the country' NCEA Level 3 students' art portfolios from 2015. It's free and everyone is welcome but we especially encourage our young people to come along and view the works as it will be very inspiring. You can see the exhibition each day from 9am - 4.30pm until Friday 6th May, at Alexandra Community House (next to the Tin Goose Cafe).
Talented Southland duo 'Into the East' are playing on 11th May at the historic Bannockburn Hall. They have gathered a strong following in Central so book your tickets early to avoid regret. The Fortune Theatre is bringing their hilarious play 'Niu Sila' to a number of Central Otago towns so no excuses here. Showing on 26th May at the Ranfurly Town Hall, 27th May at the Alexandra Memorial Hall, 28th-29th May at the Luggate Hall and 31st May at the Cromwell Memorial Hall. Check the listings below to make a booking.
These events and much more are on offer so take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy some of these cultural highlights during your autumn.
