![]() Hi there, CHALLENGING TIMES FOR GOLF AS COVID- 19 RE-EMERGES COVID 19 is with us again this time as the highly contagious Delta variant. As I write we are about to go into Level 2 with some new conditions to help restrict possible spread. The main difference since last time we were in Level 2 will be the indoor restriction of 50 people. For our clubs this will be the clubhouse and monitoring how many members can be in there at any one time. Also being aware of physical distancing and the need to wear masks when required. Other than that play on the course should be relatively normal with some touch point restrictions. In the sports sector golf has been a leader in best practice, and on the back of good advice and leadership, our clubs and members have played their part to comply. While there may be some small inconveniences for golfers we need to realise that we are quite lucky to be able to play the game we love and enjoy while many other sports are unable. Be safe and enjoy getting back into your golf! Grant Lewis, General Manager 2021 CANTERBURY GOLF ANNUAL AWARDS DINNER CANCELLED It was unfortunate that the annual awards dinner at Christchurch Golf Club had to be cancelled because of the COVID lockdown. Logistical issues meant it was not possible to reschedule. All going well the annual awards will now be presented in conjunction with the Canterbury Golf AGM at Russley Golf Club on Wednesday 29 September. The AGM will start at 7pm and will be finished by 8pm when the awards function will start. If the awards function is unable to be held award presentations will be made, where possible, in conjunction with sponsors, and the awards presentations footage posted on social media. CANTERBURY GOLF AGM RESCHEDULED Due to COVID restrictions the 2021 Canterbury Golf AGM had been rescheduled to Wednesday 29 September at 7pm. If the AGM is unable to be held at Russley it will be held by Zoom at the same date and time. PREMIER INTERCLUB GETS UNDERWAY WOODWARD CUP On 15 August, prior to COVID lockdown, the 2021 Woodward Cup got underway after the first round was washed out. The second round was played in fine conditions at Clearwater. Alot of interest centred around the new Templeton line-up and they didn't disappoint with a solid 6-2 win over a gutsy Avondale. Mike Toeke, Ryan Bellamy, and Dan Laughton won well, while Nick Franzman, Tom Wilson, and Josh Simpson got last hole wins. For Avondale Richard Sinclair soundly beat Jordon Latter, and Dan Moriarty beat Sam McGill. Bottle Lake sent a warning to other teams when they drew with perennial favourites Russley. For Russley Reid Hilton, Ben Baker, and Regan Kilpatrick had wins while Owen Burgess halved with Daniel Asplin, and Andrew Dufton halved with Steve Dellow. Kieran Sharvin, Aaron Neill, and Jason Campbell won for Bottle Lake. Pegasus stated their title aspirations with a comprehensive 6-2 win over Christchurch. Kazuma Kobori, Zach May, Phil Stephens, Marcus Mariu, and Peter Brinsdon all had wins, while James Loveday halved with Jason Sincock, and James Cadenhead halved with Finlay Jones. John "Dutchie" Rademakers was the shining light for Christchurch beating Nathan Gilbert 1up. Hosts Clearwater were too good for Weedons winning 5.5-2.5. Wins to Archie Gothard, Leon Yee, Will Bastings, Ryan Adams, and Seb May set up the win, while Ben Burgess halved with Brad Nightingale. For Weedons Hayden Clinton and Jonathan Stieller won. Harewood accounted for Waitikiri 5-3 with wins to Matt McLean, Josh Smith, Sam Watkinson, Gavin O'Hara, and Kerry Branson. For Waitikiri Aaron Forsyth, Woo Bong Kim, and Antony Dale won. Round 3 has been postponed due to COVID with round 4 rescheduled for Bottle Lake on 12 September. POLLOCK CUP Pollock Cup commenced at Pegasus Golf Club on Sunday 16 August with the home side having the bye, while the other two games were very tight till the end. Christchurch edged out Waitikiri 3.5-2.5 with Christchurch's wins coming courtesy of Nicky Webb, Melissa Newburn and a big win for Ina Lee-Hall while Catherine Bell halved her match with Kim Moggach at the top of the order. Waitikiri's other two wins came from Jenny Clarke and Chris Marple. The second match between Russley and Clearwater was also an arm wrestle finishing 3-3 and a game of two halves. Clearwater's top three of Maddie May, Rachel Eder and Jo Kent all had very comfortable victories while Russley's lower order of Lynn Brand, Jaimee Leach and Rachel Cox pulled their side through to share the points in a competitive first round.
