Matapihi Road traffic switch

The new section of road and shared path on the southern side of Matapihi Road, between SH2 and the rail line, are complete.

On Sunday night, 17 March, traffic travelling towards Matapihi will be moved onto the new section of road, and vehicles travelling east will be moved onto the former westbound lane.

Access to Matapihi Road and Owens Place will remain open during the works on Sunday night (between 7pm and 6am) and road users will notice the changed layout on Monday morning.

The traffic switch will enable the work area on the Golf 360 side of Matapihi Road to be extended and for road widening to begin.

In the coming months, earthworks will be carried out, starting at SH2 and moving towards the rail line.

Please take care driving through the area and keep to the 30km/hour temporary speed restriction.

Matapihi Road pedestrian diversion

Road widening on the southern side of Matapihi Road is almost complete, with the focus soon moving to the northern side. The work area near Golf 360 will be expanded to include the existing eastbound lanes and footpath (from the Golf 360 entrance to the underpass).

As a result, the pedestrian route for underpass users will be diverted along the Golf 360 fence line, with the existing pedestrian crossing remaining in the same location.

The temporary diversion will be in place for approximately six months, although this may change when the final design for the new underpass is confirmed. If there are concerns about any of the temporary pedestrian diversions in place across site please call us on 0508 222 4636.

SH29A weekend closure - detours in place

SH29A will be closed between the Baypark and Te Maunga roundabouts from 9pm Friday 22 March to 4am Monday 25 March.

Detours will be in place along Truman Lane and Mangatawa Link Road, and traffic delays are expected.

The closure will enable us to install stone columns across the state highway, which are necessary to take the weight of the on and off ramps for the two Te Maunga intersection flyovers.

Motorists are urged to use alternative routes where possible or plan travel outside of these hours to avoid the detour. This work is weather dependent, and if delayed will be carried out on the next suitable weekend.

We have worked closely with the team at Baypark Arena to determine the most suitable weekend for the closure.

Stone column rig on the move

The smaller of the stone column drilling rigs carrying out ground improvements near SH29A will soon move towards the Bayfair roundabout.

Once the drainage between Girven Road and Exeter Street is complete, the drilling rig will be moved across SH2. This will take place at night to minimise disruption to traffic. Stone column installation on SH2 will begin shortly after this at the Girven Road end.

Stone columns are required in this area to support the weight of the new Bayfair flyover, and while the majority of that ground improvement work will start later this year, 131 stone columns will be installed near the roundabout in March and April.

Bayfair entrance closing temporarily

The new Bayfair Shopping Centre entrance off SH2 Maunganui Road will close temporarily from Wednesday, 27 March.

Access will still be available through the Jackson Street entrance - the one closest to the Bayfair roundabout.

The closure is needed so this section of Maunganui Road can be widened for the new Maunganui-Girven southbound off ramp.

The Bayfair Shopping Centre has kindly agreed to let Maunganui Road residents between Concord Avenue and Jackson Street use the entrance to gain access to their properties while road widening is carried out.
