Powering your climate action.

These first few months of 2023 have been a reminder that our climate is changing. We've seen extreme flooding, high winds, and even snow! With Earth Day just around the corner, you may feel inspired to take action or adopt lifestyle changes that have a positive impact on the planet.

Here are three ways to make a difference this Earth Day:

Talk to someone about climate change. We're all feeling the impacts, so let's talk about it. Here's a simple guide to climate change to help you get started.

Consider switching to EverGreen. Eliminate nearly all greenhouse gas emissions (the leading cause of climate change) from your electricity use by choosing EverGreen, Sonoma Clean Power's 24/7 100% renewable and locally generated service.

Seal up your home and electrify. Are leaky windows and inefficient lightbulbs costing you extra on your monthly bills? Check out a DIY toolkit for free and easy ways to save energy at home. And when you're ready to swap out old appliances, SCP has rebates on all-electric products that reduce household emissions.

Earn rewards for saving energy.

Enroll in SCP's GridSavvy Rewards Alerts and earn rewards for saving energy when the demand for electricity is high. You can earn $2 for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) saved during an SCP Energy Saving Event, which is about how much electricity it takes to run one dishwasher cycle.

Plus, receive a $25 enrollment bonus while funding lasts. Sign up to get notified of Energy Saving Events via text or email. With your help, we can reduce the strain on California’s electric grid and lower the risk of power outages.

Meet the López family.

SCP recently unveiled our new telenovela-style series called “Por El Mañana”. The eight episodes follow the López family who, after purchasing their first home in California, search for ways to renovate as they deal with the trials and tribulations of home ownership.

The series, which is only available in Spanish, covers both general energy topics and SCP offerings. You can view episodes 1-6 now, with new episodes dropping every Monday!

Storm assistance and resources.

If you lost power for 48 hours or more due to severe storm conditions, you may qualify for a payment under PG&E's Safety Net Program. PG&E is providing payments to residential customers ranging from $25 to $100, depending on the length of the outage.

Processing for the payment may take between 60-120 days. To see if you qualify, call (888) 743-4743 to speak with someone at PG&E about the outage you experienced.

Grant opportunity for local organizations.

Nonprofits in Sonoma and Mendocino counties can apply for up to $20,000 in funding from SCP and Calpine's limited-time Calpine Community Benefits Grant Program!

This grant provides funding to organizations in SCP's service territory that help advance clean energy, green jobs, environmental education and stewardship, and equity and diversity.

Awards will range from $5,000 to $20,000 and SCP has approximately $75,000 to award. Eligible organizations must be IRS-designated 501(c)(3) nonprofits. The deadline to apply is May 12, 2023, at 5 PM PST.

EV incentives for nonprofits.

Congratulations to Face to Face on its new all-electric van and 40-year anniversary! Now, their team can bring essential HIV prevention, testing, and care directly to community members across Sonoma County.

Local nonprofits can receive a reimbursement of up to $22,500 from SCP to purchase or lease an electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid with a battery range of at least 25 miles.

SCP recently increased our incentive to help nonprofits who need medium-duty electric vehicles, like vans and pickup trucks. Since launching the program in 2018, 17 organizations have switched to an EV using our rebate.

A heating system that fits the bill.

"As soon as the weather cooled last autumn and Prabhudev Hiremath turned on the heat in the condo he had moved into just a few months earlier, he knew he was in trouble. He needed a new system pronto and he needed to act fast. Winter was coming and the nights were already getting cold..."

For this income-qualified customer, SCP's 0% interest financing helped him upgrade to an ultra-efficient heat pump heating and cooling system with zero upfront cost.
