Here’s this week’s newsletter with the latest on planned works and road closures across the region.

State Highway 3 (SH3) Ahititi to Uruti is now closed until 11.59pm on Tuesday 20 January – full details below. There are also several other works happening across the region’s state highways.

Remember to plan ahead, allow extra time for your journey, and drive safely.

 

 

Roadworks this week

State highways with scheduled works this week:

  • State Highway 3 (SH3) Awakino to New Plymouth
  • State Highway 3A (SH3A)
  • State Highway 43 (SH43)

Roadworks may be postponed due to rain or other factors that disrupt the weekly schedule.

State Highway 3 – Awakino to New Plymouth

Road closure – SH3 Ahititi to Uruti, 16-20 January

State Highway 3 (SH3) between Ahititi and Uruti is now closed until 11.59pm on Tuesday 20 January. The closure is in place between Okau Road in Ahititi and the Uruti Community Hall, with only residents, workers and business customers in the area given access, where available, from Uruti.

Within the road closure is the culvert worksite. There is no access through the culvert worksite for any vehicles during the 5-day 24/7 road closure. Road workers are positioned at Urenui and Piopio to direct road users.

Please plan ahead, travel early, or use SH4 or SH1 as alternative state highway routes. These highways are suitable for High Productivity Motor Vehicles (HPMV), including freight.

SH3 Mimi River: A road rebuild will take place north of Mimi Road from 19 January to 13 February. Stop/go traffic management will be in place, and delays of 10 to 15 minutes are expected.

SH3 Uruti: The road rebuild between Uruti and Mangahia Roads will now take place from 14 January to 20 March, weather permitting. Stop/go traffic management is in place, with delays of 5 to 10 minutes.

 

 

State Highway 3A

SH3A Inglewood: Following the completion of the southern rebuild, the northern rebuild is underway until late January, Monday to Saturday, between 6am and 6pm. Stop/go traffic management is in place, with delays of 10 to 15 minutes.

 

 

State Highway 43

SH43 Pongahuru Stream Bridge: The bridge is closed to agricultural and heavy vehicles from 7am on 14 January to 6pm on 17 January, and again from 7am on 22 January to 6pm on 25 January. Cars and other light vehicles can still use the bridge during these times. A signposted detour is in place via SH4, Ohura Road, and Mangaparo Road, adding about 17 minutes to travel time to and from Taumarunui. Stop/go controls are in place at the bridge, with delays of up to 5 minutes for light vehicles during the closures. All work is expected to be completed by the end of February.
