Hi Better Streets supporter,

Thank you for supporting our Open Letter calling for stronger federal leadership and investment in walking and cycling. With your support, we’ve sent a powerful message to candidates and the incoming government that communities across Australia want more liveable, sustainable and safe streets.

We wanted to share a quick update on the campaign’s impact:

  • 240 federal election candidates signed our pledge
  • Over 100 organisations signed our Open Letter, representing sectors including health, planning, education, sustainability, transport, business, and community
  • Around 150 individuals signed the letter and shared their personal stories
  • At least 6 elected MPs and 11 elected Senators signed our pledge – with further seats still being confirmed.

Together, we’ve demonstrated that walking and cycling are no longer fringe issues for the Australian Government – they’re central to shaping cities and towns that support health, affordability and climate action. Your endorsement gave the campaign credibility and reach, helping to elevate the importance of active transport in national conversations.
We’ve now written to the relevant Ministers to congratulate the Labor Government on their re-election and to restate our core recommendation: to invest $400 million annually – or $15 per person – in a Nationwide Active Transport Infrastructure Program.

You can read more in our Open Letter and this article in The Conversation, or watch our short video from the voices of Better Streets.

We’ll continue to work with governments, industry, academia and communities to turn this shared vision into reality – and we’ll keep you updated on key developments.
Thank you again for your leadership and support, and thanks to our volunteers who’ve provided many hours of hard work over the past few months. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Regards,
