Our Next Meeting
Barnet VCFSE Environmental NetworkThursday 18 November, 10.30 - 12noon
If you've already been to a Barnet VCFSE Environmental Network meeting then you'll automatically receive an invite and zoom link for our 9th on 18 November. If you've not joined us yet, then do email Ellen. These are informal and informative
networking sessions for those working in the Barnet Voluntary, Community, Faith & Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector, where we can come together to discuss environmental issues in the Borough, and work out how we as a sector can make a difference. This networking group will raise awareness of environmental projects that are happening in the Borough, help to establish partnerships and joint initiatives and seek funding opportunities. At October's meeting we were joined by
Craig Miller from Barnet Council's Street Scene who we hope to welcome back with updates on the Sustainability Strategy, COP26 and the Environmental Bill that’s making its way through parliament at the moment and the impact that this may have on waste management in England. Remember, get in touch if you would like to join us for a visit to the Recycling Depot at Wembley. If you have any topics you would like to raise/discuss at future meetings, do let Ellen know. Money doesn't grow on trees, but Barnet does have funding to help grow trees & other environment projects!
As some of you wait anxiously to find out whether your funding applications to the Barnet Community Innovation Fund are successful, a reminder that there are other funding pots available for the Barnet VCFSE. Ward Funding: Barnet's three Area Committees have £400,000 each per year to fund community requests. The funding can cover a wide range of infrastructure and/or capital projects for communities. Recent examples include: restoration of community centres and park pavilions, new play equipment in parks and schools and the creation
of tree trails and parks projects. If you have an idea, you should initially raise this with your ward councillor who can then propose it for funding through the appropriate Area Committee. For more information on the Ward Funding contact Graeme Clayton, Community Infrastructure Coordinator. Start up grants of up to £10,000 to help either set up a new project or activity in Barnet in response to identified needs or with specific events, purchases or other non-recurring items of expenditure. The project, event etc must complement one or more of the council’s key corporate priorities. One-off Grants, usually restricted to a maximum of £5,000 and may be subject to matching funding depending on the purpose for which help is sought and the amount required. To discuss a proposal for a start up and one-off grant and obtain an application pack, please contact Ken Argent, Grants Manager, on 020 8359 2020 or email ken.argent@barnet.gov.uk.
