The Great South Update October 2021 I appreciate that many people will be tiring of the COVID headlines and influence this is having on our lives. However, just a couple of months ago, none of us in the South would have thought that a family Christmas with our North Island whanau was unlikely to be possible this year, yet this is now a real likelihood!I hope I’m wrong but this is just one of the ongoing and increasingly severe impacts of the Covid restrictions we are facing and having to cope with. As we all know the focus is now on very high vaccination levels as the country’s primary response. Regardless of our view on the management of the vaccine roll out to date the reality now is high vaccination rates are going to be essential to recover our freedoms and, in turn, our economy in a broad and sustainable way. In this context, many businesses and organisations are also having to consider the issue of mandatory vaccination for their staff, a potentially difficult scenario for some with moral and legal challenges competing with the health and wellbeing outcomes we need. For the sake of our economy and our people we need to start 2022 (Just 12 weeks away) with the knowledge that we have put the worst of Covid behind us and start looking forward again with a positive and optimistic outlook. Please get vaccinated. Nga mihi, Latest News ![]() EV Survey: Barriers to uptake identified The Southland region has one of the lowest rates in New Zealand for EV uptake.
